I hear you need a law degree to become and investment banker? Is that true? What should my majors be in college. Economy/law or can I just do economy or must it be something else.
Please Help
Hahaha whoever told you about needing a law degree must have been trying to deter you from becoming an investment banker. Most companies require a Business Major, preferrably in Finance. Then once you get hired on an entry-level position, the company will sponsor you to take several exams – usually starts with the series 7 and 65. Then you will want to take exams to become a Chartered Financial Analyst – depending on how much farther you want your career to go.
When talking about investment banking you can:
1)Economy and finance if you want to underwrite stocks
2)Finance if you want to be financial planner
3)Accounting and Economy if you want to be an analyst. (The CFA has a lot of economy and accounting on the exams. The CFA is probably the hardest designation to have. Most people think that it is harder then any medical exam and the bar. I have never taken the exam, but almost no one passes the 3 exams.)
4)Economy if you want to manage mutual funds
I have a degree in biology and business and I am a financial planner. For certain jobs you will have to pass exams so you will learn about the information AFTER school. Having a business degree is general enough that you can do whatever you want when you are finished with college. So if you start a job and find out that you don’t like it (hence my biology degree) you can change professions with out having to go back to school. Also, many jobs just want “A degree”. They don’t care what it is in, unless you are going to take your CFA. Best of luck.
