This is a very interesting and rarely covered subject in this century. I tend to lean towards my single action revolvers for this kinda stuff but I should get out my semi auto’s. My loacal range won’t let anyone use handguns on the rifle portion for some reason unless there really high caliber. Range master says some people get a little to carried away with the kentucky windage and put shots over the backdrop.

i think that the military expert are right. in battle a pistol is pretty much useless at that distance.

You can kill someone with a .22, doesn’t make it in any way an acceptable weapon for combat.
If you shoot somebody in the head they’re going to die instantly. If you shoot them in the head, likewise. Just about anything that penetrates is going to cause someone to bleed to death….eventually….if untreated. You can’t expect any of those things in combat.
You need to give me more details. Suffice to say, as it stands, someone was killed at 70 yards with a 9mm, doesn’t impress me.

In American Handgunner Magazine January/February 2010, there is an article on the Fairchild Airforce Base Hospital shooting. The relevance of my saying this, is that the military policeman that stopped that gunman toting an AK clone, dropped said gunman from 70yards away with a Beretta M9 using 124 full grain full metal jacket. For all of you doubters, maybe it is time for you to do a little long range handgunning….

Cool, you can hit something at a whopping 90 yards with a pistol.

However, it’s effectiveness comes down to a number of components, including accuracy, penetration, and stopping power. You’ve demonstrated it has satisfactory accuracy to hit a target at 90 yards, but how much kinetic energy does it retain? Can it penetrate heavy clothing, much less kevlar or higher strength body armor? Can it cause sufficient internal damage to incapacitate or kill a target?
