These “High Yield Investment Programs” (HYIP) appear to all be scams. I have never heard of a legitimate one. No one can honestly offer interest rates that high. See these links.

I could get you high yields for your investments, but that depends on what you call high. If you get too greedy then you get too vulnerable, right?

The Ishares Dow Jones Select Dividend ETF, DVY, does better (last I saw) than the S&P Dividend Aristocrats but is only about 5.6% right now. Still, the banks aren’t paying half that much, except the banks on the FDIC watchlist perhaps.

I know where you can get at or close to double-digit dividend yields, but what if the companies fold? Are you willing to risk that?

Not all high yield investment programs are frauds, but in case you haven’t noticed the economic meltdown that got serious last year changed a lot of things. Oodles of previously steady and growing dividend payers either cut back or stopped paying dividends, and some went bust. Is that a fraud? Only if you refuse to recognize the risk involved. When you play the edge sometimes you get cut and that isn’t always an issue of fraud, it is an issue of risk. There is a common rule that low risk pays low rewards and high paying rewards come with high risk. So quit crying and suck it up, or be ready to take your lumps when expecting big things, especially in this economy.
